Are you stuck? Need a prod in the right direction? This page features many hints and tips on finding your way around. If you like, check out our FAQ or if you would like to get more than "hints" on how wikis work, visit the MediaWiki.com Help manual.

Finding information

Finding information on a wiki is far easier than looking for it in a library. You have several ways to do it.

 • Terminology: Visit our terminology page to learn some terms and abbreviations you'll find throughout this wiki.
 • Links: We've tried to lay out the wiki in the simplest possible way, for you to find your way around. Nearly everything can be accessed from the Main Page by clicking on relevant links. If you can't find anything, use the ...
 • Search: (top right corner) Type in the name of the subject you're looking for (eg, "sackboy" or "The Bunker"). If you typed in the name of an article or page you'll go straight there - if not, you'll see a list of pages where your subject is mentioned.
Note: Capitalisation is important in a wiki's search box. You won't be taken directly to the page if the wiki doesn't like how you've used capital letters.
 • Categories: There are many different categories on LBP that sort pages into relevant groups. A lot of these are complete hodgepodge, but some contain collections of very useful pages.

Editing

LBPWiki is open for all members to edit and add to. If you want to add something, we suggest you check some things before you edit (or even add) any articles.

 • Make sure the information you want to add doesn't exist somewhere else. You can do this by using the search box in the top right corner.
 • If you plan to change complex formatting or any extended part of the article, we recommend you discuss the change first via the page's talk page.
 • Familiarise yourself with any policies that may apply to your edit. If in doubt, look at how things are done elsewhere on the wiki and copy!
 • Look out for notices at the top of each page. They can give you advice and information about what the page needs.
 • Be bold! Don't hesitate to make an edit if you feel it can add something to the wiki. Like many things in the world of LittleBigPlanet, this wiki is a community effort.
 • If you want to help but don't know where to go, start with our To-Do list and sign up to help with any of the projects there, or have a look through the pages that need cleanup and stub article categories, which contain articles that could benefit from a bit of TLC.

Articles can be edited by clicking the Edit tab at the top right of the article. Before editing, however, we recommend you take a quick look at our policies. If you want indepth information on how to edit the wiki, go to MediaWiki.com's editing help page, but there are a few general tips here to get you started.

Links

Type Name of Article to link to another page. For example:

It is important to use the correct capitalisation within the link, as wiki article titles are case sensitive. (i.e. Player Sensor will find Player Sensor but Player sensor would be a broken link). The exception is that the wiki will automatically covert the first letter of a link to upper case, so player Sensor would also correctly link to Player Sensor.

If the name of the page doesn't work grammatically, or would look better with different text within the article, it is appropriate to use Name of link, where Name of Article is the title of the article you want to link to, and Name of link is what appears in the article. For example:

 • Main Page displays as Main Page

See the links help page on MediaWiki for more information.

Images

To place an image in the text, type , where Filename is the name of the image you want to insert. To make it stick to the right hand side of the page, add , and the same for the left hand side. If in doubt, look how other images have been placed in the wikitext and copy. For more information on image formatting, see this page.

Headings

To add pre-formatted headings to wiki articles, type ===Heading=== in the wikitext, where the Heading section is your heading. The more equals signs you have either side of your heading, the smaller the heading will be.

Headings are automatically added to Tables of Contents. Tables of Contents appear if there are four or more headings in the article. You can force a Table of Contents on to a page by either adding __TOC__ or toc right to your page. The toc right will add a table of contents that is right justified on the page and allow the page text to "wraparound".

Useful templates

Go to the LBPWikiMessage category to see a list of templates that can help you post standardised messages at the top of an article. Make sure you read the syntax section of the template page carefully so you can fill in the message box properly.

Note: Please use the message box templates in this category instead of any others you might find, as these templates add the articles in which they are placed to specific categories that sysops use to easily locate them.

Where not to edit

If you see a warning when you opt to edit a page, read it and take note. If you don't know what you're doing, please don't edit the page. Some pages have been protected (like this one) against editing by standard users. In particular, you should be careful when editing templates as they can appear on many other pages. Spam-editing, particularly of templates and other important pages, will be taken seriously.

Making a mistake

If you make a mistake and you've saved your changes, don't panic! You can either undo the change or rollback the article, which will undo all your edits and leave the article as you left it. You can do both of these things by going to the recent changes page, which is also available on the sidebar.

Talk pages

Use talk pages to discuss changes to articles and pages. All talk pages can be posted on, including those of pages you normally cannot edit. All opinions are welcome, even if they "go against the grain" of the norm. To get to one, click on the Discussion tab at the top of the page.

Posting

Click on the Edit tab as usual, then scroll down to where you want to make your post. You can automatically print your signature and a timestamp at the end of a talk page comment by typing ~~~~ at the end of your comment. If you are replying to something above you, you can indent your post with a colon (:) before the first word to lay out the talk page neatly.

Add a new topic

Click this tab at the top of the talk page, type your title, then add your post as usual.

Be sure to discuss any large edits on a talk page before proceeding with them.

Redirects

A redirect is a page that points you to another page as soon as you access it. For example, on this wiki there is an article called Randomiser, but for the alternative spelling there is a redirect page called Randomizer, which will point you to the first page. Try clicking the second link - you will be taken to the first page, and you will be notified of the redirect underneath the title.

If you think a certain search should point to a certain page you can make your own redirect, but see the Redirects page to find out how to do that.

Sysops

Sysops are wiki administrators, and have extra powers to help keep the wiki organised. They can edit protected pages (such as the Main Page and this page), delete pages, and other trusted activities. They can also block you from editing the wiki for various lengths of time if they think you are being disruptive!
